Patient Resources

Everything you need to come prepared.

What to bring, what to expect, how appointments run, how insurance works, and answers to the questions we hear most often.

What to expect at your first visit

Your first appointment should be smooth and productive. Here’s what we’ll do and how to prepare.

Bring with you

  • Photo ID
  • Insurance card(s)
  • List of current medications (including dosages)
  • List of allergies
  • Relevant medical records or test results (if available)
  • Any imaging CDs (ultrasound, CT, MRI) related to your condition
  • Questions you’d like to discuss

Arrive early

Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to complete any necessary paperwork.

During your appointment

  1. Review your medical history and current symptoms
  2. Discuss what’s bringing you in today
  3. Perform a physical examination as appropriate
  4. Order any necessary tests or imaging
  5. Discuss initial findings and potential next steps
  6. Answer your questions

Plan for 30 to 45 minutes for a new patient visit. Some appointments may be shorter or longer depending on complexity.

Your understanding matters. Ask questions if anything is unclear. There are no “dumb questions” when it comes to your health.

After your appointment

You may need to get lab work or imaging studies, schedule a follow-up, start recommended treatments, or return for test results and treatment planning. We’ll provide clear instructions before you leave.

Insurance and billing

We accept most major PPO insurance plans and Medicare.

Common accepted plans:

  • Most PPO plans (Aetna, Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, and others)
  • Medicare

Coverage and benefits vary by plan. We recommend verifying your specific coverage before your visit. Our office staff can help confirm your benefits.

Payment

  • Co-pays and deductibles are due at the time of service
  • We accept cash, check, and major credit cards
  • Payment plans may be available for larger balances

Out-of-network

If we are out-of-network for your plan, we can provide documentation for you to submit for potential reimbursement. Check with your insurance company about out-of-network benefits.

Frequently asked

Questions we hear most.

What is a urologist?
A urologist is a physician who specializes in conditions affecting the urinary tract (kidneys, bladder, ureters, urethra) and the male reproductive system. Urologists complete medical school plus 5 to 6 years of specialized surgical training in urology. We treat both men and women.
Do I need a referral to see you?
It depends on your insurance plan. Many PPO plans allow you to see a specialist without a referral, but some require one. Check with your insurance company to be sure.
How do I schedule an appointment?
You can schedule online through ZocDoc (the easiest option) or call our office directly at (925) 270-2415.
How long will I wait for an appointment?
We try to see patients as quickly as possible, especially for urgent concerns. Typical wait times vary, but we often have appointments available within 1 to 2 weeks. Call our office to check current availability.
Do you see both men and women?
Yes. While some of our services focus on men's health (testosterone therapy, Peyronie's disease, vasectomy), we also treat women for conditions like urinary incontinence and other urological issues.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Photo ID, insurance card, medication list, relevant medical records, and any questions you have.
Can I get records from my previous doctor?
Yes, and it's helpful if you can. You can request records from your previous providers, or sign a release allowing us to request them on your behalf.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Please call our office as soon as possible if you need to change your appointment. We request at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations.
Will my visit be confidential?
Absolutely. Your medical information is protected by HIPAA regulations. We do not share your information without your consent, except as required by law.
What if I'm embarrassed about my condition?
You're not alone. Many urological conditions feel awkward to discuss. We see these conditions every day and treat all patients with dignity and respect. There's no need to be embarrassed.
What if I want to bring someone with me?
You're welcome to bring a family member or friend for support. Just let us know and we'll accommodate.
Have a question we didn't answer?

Just call.
